Today we honor Kurt Meyer Eberrhardt.   Mr. Eberhardt is one of my very favorite etching artists!  His use of line in his rivals any in my book.  He captured my heart when I first saw his depictions of Hares and chicks.

Kurt Meyer Eberhardt is one of the most famous and revered artists of dogs and cats ever. He was born in 1895 in Leipzig, Germany and died in Munich in 1977. After having studied at the Weimar Academy of Arts, he moved to Munich in 1918.. At the Weimar Academy OF Fine art, where he had become A student under the artists Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger. He rejected A professorship at Weimar .In 1926 he held his last exhibition in the “New Secession.”His work has been published by the Hanfstaengl Publishing Company in Munich, London and New York since 1917.

He was a staunch individualist who rejected the offer of a professorship in Weimar because he valued his independence too much. The only thing he wanted was to continue depicting his beloved dogs, cats and other animals. The prints shown here have been hand printed in color from the original plates. The printer applies the different colored inks to the plate, following the original patterns and directions as given by the artist himself.

SADLY WE ARE REMAIN CLOSED TO VISITORS.
