Today I wish to share artist Amy Lay!  Her original oils exhibit a vibrancy, a sense of looseness and a comfortable nontraditional style.   Heavily inspired by her experiences of a life growing up in the shadow of the Eagle Cap Wilderness of Northeastern Oregon, Amy developed an intimate love and fascination for the animals and wildlife on her families 5 generation mountain ranch. Primarily self-taught but grateful for her Art Degree from Eastern Oregon University, Amy’s career has evolved from childhood dream to realiity. Now painting primarily in Oils, a bold use of color, powerful yet simple design and an ephemeral quality in her use of medium influenced by years of painting strictly in watercolor has given Amy’s work a highly recognizable and unique signature quality.  Her work dances across the often thick line between realism and abstraction, traditional and contemporary and because of this appeals to a very broad and often newer clientele. Amy is presently being featured with four other female artists in Jackson Hole Wyoming at the National Museum of Wildlife Art!!  An honor in deed.  More of her work can now be found in homes and private collections across the United States and can be obtained exclusively through several Fine Galleries and select Art Shows. Today we honor Kurt Meyer Eberrhardt.   Mr. Eberhardt is one of my very favorite etching artists!  His use of line in his rivals any in my book.  He captured my heart when I first saw his depictions of Hares and chicks.  Kurt Meyer Eberhardt is one of the most famous and revered artists of dogs and cats ever. He was born in 1895 in Leipzig, Germany and died in Munich in 1977. After having studied at the Weimar Academy of Arts, he moved to Munich in 1918.. At the Weimar Academy OF Fine art, where he had become A student under the artists Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger. He rejected A professorship at Weimar .In 1926 he held his last exhibition in the "New Secession."His work has been published by the Hanfstaengl Publishing Company in Munich, London and New York since 1917. He was a staunch individualist who rejected the offer of a professorship in Weimar because he valued his independence too much. The only thing he wanted was to continue depicting his beloved dogs, cats and other animals. The prints shown here have been hand printed in color from the original plates. Susan tells her story: I was born and raised in Chicago and first began to display an interest in the creative arts while in elementary school.  My parents, recognizing a talent, enrolled me in three years of weekly oil painting classes with Jack Simmerling, the accomplished Chicago landmark water colorist. Majoring in art during high school, I was awarded an Illinois State Scholastic Fine Arts Award.  Following high school graduation I continued oil painting, while pursuing a career in the computer field.  From 1990 to 1997, I earned a BFA in Printmaking and an MA in Contemporary Art History at the State University of New York at Buffalo. My studying Modern Art History and further applying that knowledge in creating art, with conventional and non-conventional materials was stimulating and enjoyable, but it left me feeling unfulfilled and unchallenged as an artist. In less than five years I was provided an opportunity to twice visit Italy and see its magnificent art collection. The genesis of this esthetic experience instilled in me a quest not only to return to Traditional Painting, but also to actively seek out the archival methods and materials used by the Old Masters and apply them to my own creative expression. In so doing, I’ve discovered my creative voice. With the completion of my MA, I opened my first studio, which has provided me with years of creative challenges and accomplishments.  My creative voice has always been inspired by the techniques and methods of the Classical Master Artists.  Much of what I’ve learned about their methods is self-taught. My work has been published in many publications, most notably American Art Collector Magazine (2010 and 2013), as well as having exhibited in numerous national juried shows.  I give painting workshops, demos and teach private instruction in the old oil painting methods known as Indirect Oil Painting. Susan has entertained us with many of her mason jar series that have found their way to new homes.  The painting shown is the first step in her process with a block in monochromatic.  This is from Amelia Island, GA. GERALD LUBECK is sorely missed and still satisfies our painting needs. Gerald L. Lubeck was born in 1942, in Long Branch, New Jersey. During his high school days at Westfield Senior High School, he participated in numerous art and sports related activities. Upon graduation, he received a scholarship to the National Academy of Design in New York City. He studied with Maxwell S. Simpson of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Lajos Markos of New York City. Gerald spent two years as a medic in the U.S. Army. The year he spent in Vietnam enabled his to befriend many Vietnamese people, many of whom were subjects of his paintings. His service in Vietnam and his work as an iron worker never detracted form his painting. While realism has always dominated his works, he is always experimenting with different media and approaches to all subject matter. His work is disciplined primarily by time constraints and mood. The artist resides in Vermont with his wife Nancy and daughter Sandra. Gerald will be forever thankful that his parents, mentors, and friends never pushed him toward fake goals in painting or life. He believes that his work has been influenced by as many unknowns as masters. He is especially fond of the freedom of thought and style expressed by children. He has received over fifty awards, most of which were “First Place” or “Best in Show”. His One Man Exhibitions, held each February, continue to be highly successful and well attended by his many admiring collectors. Brett has been with the gallery for several years and brightened many homes with his happy and colorful mixed media originals. Following is link to his process that is fascinating. My inspiration is born from the works of the Impressionists and Abstract Expressionists – Think Van Gogh meets Kandinsky at Gustave Klimt’s house. I am fascinated by the ability of intense color and texture of line to convey an emotional expression from the artist to the viewer. Working with vivid color oil pastel, I create images that are recognizable to welcome the viewer into the scene. “Color is power that directly influences the soul.” — Kandinsky By using the hand cut metallic leaf on some of my works , I have stepped up the energy level of these pieces with the reflective brilliance that only a metallic surface can provide. I draw because it makes me feel good and energized, and I want the viewer to experience that same energy that inspires me to create. My use of black outlines around the shapes are deliberate and necessary and intend only to define and intensify the emotion of my work. My imagery is taken from my travels and from my mind’s eye. I want a finished work that I can proudly say purely represents my vision. Background My artistic background begins with illustrating a magazine named “Corny”  in grade 5 – it had a distribution of one, myself. My family and I were involved in the art industry from early on. We sold hand-coloured etchings and pastel drawings by my step-mother to galleries and directly to the public at various arts festivals. After graduation (1988) from the University of Washington in Seattle, where I grew up, I moved to Bellingham WA. My full-time art started there. I originally specialized in original serigraph printmaking. In 1997, I took up oil pastel drawing as my medium of choice and discovered a new freedom of drawing spontaneously versus the meticulously planned out serigraph stencil making and printing.     In 2007, My partner and I moved North and settled on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast and later were granted Citizenship. The move to BC has been quite inspiring, so much so, that I find that my style shifted slightly more toward a abstracted landscape view. The colours are deeper and the elements of design are more freestyle. To this day I continue on the family tradition of selling my original art and reproductions directly to the public through juried art festivals in Canada and the US as well as through private galleries and my home studio in Sechelt BC SADLY WE ARE PRESENTLY CLOSED TO VISITORS.
